As crisp leaves begin their annual dance upon the brisk breezes of fall rolling in, treat passersby to a prismatic color show with the signature treasures of the season’s bounty.
Nothing signals autumn’s arrival quite like a porch packed with pumpkins. Staggered along several steps in relaxed rows, an amalgam of gourds can really shine. Big or Baby Boo; solid or striped; orange, blue, or white—the options are endless, and the old adage of “the more the merrier” rings ever true. Heirloom varieties lend an especially enchanting feel and pair well with other time-honored accents such as vintage lanterns.
Of course, mums are another quintessential fall favorite when it comes to florals. Their robust presentation and rich jewel tones of red, orange, yellow, and more make them stunning additions to any porch display. Try mixing up their vessels with a rotation of classic terra-cotta pots and planters alongside assorted baskets—some filled in with coordinating blooms that provide differing shapes and heights.
Bows fastened to basket handles and the collars of precious pups offer charming finishing touches. A front door festooned with a harvest wreath in a sunny hue imparts a final hospitable detail, beckoning friends of all kinds—including furry—to stop and stay awhile, basking in the inherent comforts of the season.
